I`ve managed to scrape together £2000 for an engine mod to my 205-1.6GTI....
what would be the best option... other than an MI-16

    Thanks

    Hi,
WOW. Other than the MI16, sticking to XUs perhaps T16, or a 1.9 Regiani.
Damn you can have whatever you want for £2k ! And build yourself a damn
    fast-like-hell-bullet.

    Regards,

Can't think of any better option than the Mi-16. Would leave you with some
    change too.

A T16 :D Nah only joking, not for that money anyway. Stick with the
Mi16 but try and get a 205 Mi16 loom so you don’t have to butcher
yours (try an independent Peugeot specialist for a new one).

A GTi6 would be a more powerful engine but would probably be a pig to
    fit.

If you are getting bigger brakes check that your alloys will actually
fit over them, the pepper pots only just fit over the rear callipers
from a 1.9GTi: If you have weights on the wheels they break the brake
spring and your pads fall out, as I found out not long ago.

    Good luck

    Hi there,

So far this is what I`ve done to my little Pug 205 GTI 1.6...

    Top strut brace,
    Lower Strut brace,
    Group N strut top mounts,
    Piper cross induction kit,
    Magnex FULL stainless steel exhaust,
    Quick shifter linkage,
Fully polly race bushed ( front and rear ),
    Group A rear beam mounts,
Spax Kryton Gas shocks + Springs,
    TSW Apex 15" wheels,
    Yokahama 195/50x15 A539`s,
    New calipers ( standard ),
    New discs ( standard ),
    Mintex road/rally front pads,
    Fully goodrige hoses ( front/rear )
    Sabelt 4 point harneses,
    Corbora Bucket seats,
    Stripped interior,
2nd engine fan fitted in spare space,
    Mesh grille,
    italia steering wheel...

I think that`s all... I would like bigger brakes but am unsure as to what to
    buy seeing that it`s a 1.6 and not a 1.9...
I would also like to buy a reconditioned and lowered rear beam.. but can I
    find one...?

How much difference is there really with fitting a Mi-16 engine...?

A Citroen BX16v engine loom will do the trick
Fits as easily as the Mi16 (XU9J4), but is an XU10 series engine, with a
cast iron block, so is heavier. Also the GTi6 engine won't tune as well, or
as cheaply as the Mi16. The Mi16 is a racing engine down-tuned for the road,
with steel crank, webbed block and huge valve seat inserts that will machine
out easily for bigger valves etc etc.

For the front, go for Pug 206 Gti 180 front discs and calipers, they are a
bolt on replacement and well worth the effort.
How about a Pug 309 rear axle, its wider than the 205 item and gives you
    rear discs as well.
160 bhp standard, 130lb ft torque. If you get rid of the engine management
and fit the 1.9 dizzy and a set of Webbers you'll be looking at 180bhp. The
engine will go to about 220bhp for about a grand, and on a standard bottom
end. That's up in "Killing Subaru's Dead" category.

Put "205 Mi16" into Google. There is days of reading material there,
including "Autofive" who market a conversion kit.

    Good Luck

Also note that there are different varieties of pepperpot alloys. It all
depends on where they were made. There's one set that will not fit over 1.9
GTi front brakes (as I found out) unless you attack the calipers with a
grinder. But the other 2 sets are slightly different and will clear them
(and are also stronger). I've got it written down somewhere if anyone is
    interested.

There's a place in Devon somewhere that will fit a recon beam for about
£400. Can find out the name if you like, as I know someone that had it done
    on his 309 GTi.

Havent had much like in finding places that will do an Mi16 conversion, as
the people I know that had one, brought the car with the engine done, and
had no further info. But if you wanted to do it yourself (its not *that*
hard) consider talking to Dave Baker about engine upgrades, and he'll supply
you with some good kit and knows his stuff. This article (by him) is a good
    read:

I would also like to buy a reconditioned and lowered rear beam.. but
A while back I asked my local specialist if they could fit new torsion
bars. They replied with "It would be cheaper for us to fit a whole
new assembly" not sure how much they would charge but it is probably
    under £500.
Their website is http://www.citraulix.com. Although they are a Cirtoen
specialist they also know their way around Peugeots much more than the
    dealers.
The 309 has a higher ride height at the rear so I suggest you steer
clear of an assembly from them. The 1.9GTi 205 also has a wider rear
assembly and rear discs but you will need a pair of inline
compensators or a dashboard based adjustable compensator for the
discs. I’m not sure how a 1.6GTi rear/front split braking system would
cope with rear discs but my 205D (diagonal split) is running fine with
    rear discs.
