    Hi

My recently purchased 205 GTI 1.6 has a mind of its own when it comes
to its Idle point, and often dips so low that the car stalls, every
    time the car slows down.

The problem is that sometimes the car decides to behave, and idles at
about 1,000 revs, never stalling, sometimes it will idle alot higher
at nearly 2,000 revs, and sometimes it will idle so low that it cuts
down everytime the car comes to a halt. Problem is, you never know
which mood the car is going to be in, which is a problem as im having
problems diagnosing what exactly the issue may be. The cars recently
had a new head gasket and radiator installed, im not sure wether this
problem may be something to do with this.

If anyone can help me with this i would really appreciate it, as its a
    nightmare right now. Cheers.

    Joe

Hi, It seems everyone gets this problem at some time or another
remove and clean out idle control valve, on side of throttle body.
check for steady repeatable voltages out from throttle position
    sensor.
ensure that there are no air leaks on the inlet side of the engine.

There is lots of other posibilities, but these seem the most common.
