    I have a 1998 205GTi. (78,000 miles)
According to my garage the head gasket has blown causing an oil leak to the
rear of the engine and it's not really economic to repair.
    The car still drives well.

I hate the idea of the car being scrapped. I've had it a long time and it
    has been a great motor.

    So, I have two questions.

    1) Does anyone know how best to sell the car to someone who will fix it and
    keept it going.

    2) Does anyone know a garage that can repair something like this without
    charging the earth.

The car has 6 months MOT (and would easily pass another today), new tyres,
    exhaust, battery.

    I am in N.E. London.

if i was you try and get it up in the air and have a look yourself. it
might just be a rocker cover gasket that is letting oil cover your
engine.cant see it being head gasket if it is driveing o.k and not over
heating or using oil or water. so i think you should look deeper your
    self at this matter,

    Chris,

    Thanks for the advice.
It is using oil unfortunately at quite a rate. I trust the garage that
diagnosed the problem so I can be pretty sure it's the head gasket.

So its the valve steam oil seals that have gone then? i think i would
have it done, then you know it will keep on going a lot more.cant you do
it your self? if you take your time and dont rush .have a go,good luck
