    Hi all,

I've got a problem with the brakes on my 205 - the front right-hand-side
caliper keeps sticking on. I've had it cleaned and greased etc but this only
cured the problem temporarily - I've got a feeling it needs to be
    reconditioned (or replaced).

Anyone know of a good place around the
Warrington/Liverpool/Manchester(Outer) areas that will sell me a new or
reconditioned one and take the old one in part-exchange?
Failing that, anyone know of a good place to get my current one sorted out?

    Any idea on prices?

It's a pain in the ar*e as it's causing my brakes to bind slightly which in
turn is causing drag to the right and wobble through the steering.

    Cheers,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

Got exactly the same problem on mine, and i got a set of vented disk
calipers, and some used discs for £20 (from a bloke on here in fact). Still
havent put them on yet but they seem ok(except i snapped both bleed nipples
off), but second hand ones might be a good bet. Maybe a scrapyard?

    Thanks Carl, I think I might try that - I'm pretty sure there's a Pug-Only
breakers somewhere around here - I'll have to look them up.

    Ta!

    Hi Matt,

I had a similar problem on the near side.

When I finally got round to fitting new discs (Bendix £9 from GSF)and
pads, on taking the pads out I realised some buffoon had fitted the pads
the wrong way round (see Haynes manual for what I mean).

Once I'd fitted the new discs and pads (Mintex 1144's I think) the
"sticking on" disappeared, so I reckon it was the pads fitted wrong that
    caused it.

You're problem's probably something else, but I thought I'd post just in
case. Sorry, if I'm too late, but I've only just read your post.

Incidentally, the difference once I'd fitted new discs/pads was
    astounding.

Let me know if you ever need to fit new pads, and I'll find the model
number for you. I rang a highly regarded Peugot specialist in Cheshire
before I bought. They recommended a sporty pad from Mintex which I should
have the model no for if you or any other readers are interested they were
about £36, so beyond my pocket).

I have the M1144s on my 205 XS, and they are without a doubt the best brake
pad i have used. Off the top of my head the part number was MDB 1291 for my
Bendix calipers (the ones that use a slide), and they're avaliable in plenty
of motorsport places since they're also used on the 205 GTis.

    Carl,

You've forced me to get my invoices out.

The Model number for the pads is indeed MDB1291, but I have the standard
pad (£11.76 inc VAT from PARTCO) not the 1144's as I originally said.

What did you pay for the 1144? I seem to remember being quoted about £36,
which I could'nt justify for the relatively local driving I do.

Cant remember exactly, but i think it was about £40. Definately not work it
unless you do a bit of 'spirited' driving in the car!

Thanks for the info - I've not got around to doing anything yet (baby on way
    so decorating nursery!!!)

I've not long since had new brakes all round (new discs/pads on front,
shoes/cylinders on back) - everything was fine with them immediately after
they were done, this is only a problem over the last couple of months.

I think when I get around to it (which isn't likely to be for a while) I
want to change the pads and discs for better ones anyway, so I may well take
    you up on your recommendation.

    Cheers!
