My other halfs 52 plate 206 1.9HDi (~53K) has started to make a noise,
best described as being like hitting a thick cast iron pipe with a soft
faced mallet(!) when going over bumps/potholes. Sounds like its coming
from the rear suspension but doesn't do it every time or when there is
more weight at the back (eg when there are back seat passengers or the
tanks full). Had a look myself but couldn't see anything so have had it
into the local garage and they couldn't find anything though they did
tighten all the suspension bolts. Car has a towbar fitted (was fitted
when we got it but we haven't used it). Any ideas?
    TIA

look at the exhaust. it might be hitting .or rear shockers or rubbers on
top of the shockers.so if u can jack the rear up and have a good pull about,
good luck from chris from Addlestone Surrey

You might take everything out of the boot first and see if it still does it.
Amazing how a loose spare wheel or something can sound like broken
    suspension.

Is that in reply to my other post about the oil temperature gauge? I'm
not the original poster, I just happened to see Addlestone and thought
    I'd say hi!)

No problems with my 306 so far (touch wood)

No no, I am from Addlestone myself, but I only posted in this topic to
say hello, I didn't start it.

Thanks guys, I've already done all the obvious stuff prior to posting -
removed spare wheel and carrier, checked exhaust (first thing I
suspected!) etc plus I would hope the guys at the garage would have
checked the shocks and mounts before going to the trouble of tightening
the subframe bolts but I will have another root around this weekend
    weather permitting.
