306 HDi radiator fan cut-in temp

Discussion in 'Peugeot 306' started by SouthpawArcher, Oct 8, 2004.

  1. Can anyone confirm the approximate temperature their 306 radiator fan
    kicks-in?

While I was stuck in slow-stop traffic a few days' ago (for about an
hour), the temp gauge slowly went into the red: not just the first red
line, but slightly into the thick red bar. The traffic started moving
again shortly afterwards, so the temperature went back down to 70ish (as
    normal).

Was I very lucky, or does it kick in very late? The manual is slightly
ambiguous about it, so I would like some 'real world' experience.

Needless to say, I was in a state of quiet panic, as I was waiting for
the ECU to say "enough's enough" and put the 'STOP' light on.

    Thanks for any advice!

That sounds a little bit high to be honest... I don't recall my temp.
gauge ever going into the red in my 206 HDi; only to slightly above 90
    before falling again.
I guess the only way to be sure is to test it...

It would also be worth checking the fan fuse in the engine bay (in the
    206 it's MF2; don't have a Haynes for the 306...)
