I am trying to take out the clarion stereo in my P reg. 306. It appears to
be connected at the bottom of the stereo and not on the sides but I can't
seem to see how I get to detach it to remove it. Any advice gratefully
    taken.

    1. Pull off the covering strip(s).

    2. Insert four long pointy things, one into each hole under the strips.

    3. Remove stereo by tugging and jiggling.

You can buy the Clarion removing clips from Halfords etc. or with the
careful use of thin bladed screwdrivers, insert them at the bottom a
few cms in from the sides to release and then use a lot of jiggling.
You can normally release one clip at a time by angling it out one side
    then the other.

The Haynes manual gives details of the shape of the two release strips.
Basically it is a 10mm wide strip of thin metal with a 6mm square cut out of
    it close to one end.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I now have my new stereo installed. I now
know that I was having trouble as the catches are high compared to the
bottom of the surround. But with perseverance I managed. Now I just have to
find an adapter for the aerial plug, it is a very large plug where my new
stereo socket is thinner(standard aerial socket I think).

There are only two sorts of aerial plug. You just need an adaptor - pick one
up from any car stereo shop.
