307 - ear-piercing beeping.

    Today when I started my 307 it started emitting a loud earpiercing beep (not
    a burglar alarm) and the radio functions stopped working i.e. couldn´t
    see/change station or volume. I had to pull the radio fuse for it to stop..

    anybody any ideas on what it is ?
