I bought this M reg pug 405 diesel about 5 months ago.

The last 2 months I have seen this orange light appear on the dash board,
intermitantly, the manual suggests replace the fuel filter (something to
do with water in the fuel?), which I have done.

Its been 2k miles since the light last appeared, so I thought the problem
    was fixed.

Any suggestions? Anyone seen this before??

    Hi,
Yes, it is the warning light for water in fuel.
Excepted if you haven't drained the fuel filter housing properly.
But this is pure theory - the truth is somewhere else...
.... This is the very common "water in fuel" light, which is, of course,
    specific to Diesel engines.
All Peugeot Diesel owners know this light, most of time, has no meaning. It
can lit on with no water in fuel housing. Best to do is to ignore it, and
change your fuel filter following service instructions (I do change my fuel
filter every two oil changes - far before the instructions).

The last 2 months I have seen this orange light appear on the dash board,
Normally you would just drain the fuel filter until water is expelled.
This is part of the 12? or 18? thousand service when the fuel filter is
    replaced
..Just replacing the filter will not get rid of the water.
There is a drain plug on the fuel filter housing. Protect the clutch when
you do this - diesel will ruin it.Get short lenth of plastic pipe to fit
over the drain tap if one is not already there. Run the diesel fuel into a
clean glass jar just to see if water is present.

If you have a Haynes manual then procedure is fully explained in the service
section at the front as you will have to prime the fuel system after this.

This may solve the problem but if you have a tank full of contaminated fuel
then it just will keep reappearing. ( does not seem like it if you have had
this problem for a few months)

Otherwise it may be a faulty sensor.

Also if you have water in the diesel, you won't need a light to tell
you. It will run like a pig, be difficult to start, and will smoke like
    a Bulgarian tyre factory.

I thought the light meant that that trap at the bottom of the fuel
filter housing was full and needed draining (from my 309). It was only
if you ignored it that the swine-like behaviour started.
