Can anyone recommend a good, cheap supplier of an alternator for a 405 TDi?
Also, will the alternator be interchangeable between aircon and non aircon
    models? (70A & 80A I believe).

    Many thanks

    London,

I've found a place that will recondition for £72 in Southampton, jasm.co.uk
but they won't send a replacement 'til they have the old one to be sure
it's compatible. This seems a fair price and wise philosophy. However as I
haven't changed an alternator on the 405 before (and it looks quite awkward
as apparently I have to loosen the belt through the wheelarch), I'll have
to wait until next week before removing as I can't risk not having a car
    next week.

The price sounds about right for your area,
here on Merseyside we would pay about £45-£50,
Have the alternator tested,, sometimes the regulator is the culprit,, unless
    the bearings have failed, ??
    good luck
