Recently my 406 2.1 TD has started to show a problem. When I change gears
the revs rise! This happens infrequently but still enough to be a problem.
When it's at a stop and idling (out of gear) the revs rise when I tap the
accelerator and stay at the point they got to.

    Any solutions would be great.

    Kind regards

If it is like the 1.9 there is a damper attached to the throttle linkage on
the diesel pump, disconnect this and try again. If this cures the problem
all well and good but be warned a replacement from Peugeot is £114 yes that
is right at that rate a damper for the rear tailgate would be £400.

I disconnected the damper on my 605 2.1TD, felt a lot more natural
after that and caused no problems

    Thanks all.

I'll give that a go. Sounds expensive!?!?

    Kind regards

I have disconnected mine, it's just an emissions device.

So if I disconnect it, will it not harm the car? This way sounds free and
    that's what I'd prefer!
