Just had aircon regassed and was working OK but if car is left in the
hot sun (just when you need aircon) the compressor and fan cut out
after about 15 secs. Allow car to cool in the shade and everything OK.
Any clues as to what might cause this?

Maybe high side pressure getting too high. Are the fans at the front running
    ok?

There is only one fan (406 hdi 90) and that seems to be running OK but
cuts out with the compressor. Would heat affect the high side pressure?
Do you think it could have been overgassed? This never happened before
the regassing, however when it is running the aircon is much more
efficient than before; it cools quicker and colder, so when it works it
    is perfect.

Hmm. If the system is overgassed, it won't work as efficiently, and you say
it works well when it does. Overgassing can cause the compressor to cut out,
but normally the pressure will drop quickly in this case and the compressor
come back on ( a few seconds later).

Feel the high pressure pipe from the compressor, as a general rule, if it
gets too hot to hold, the pressure may be too high. Only way to be sure is
    to get the gauges on.

    Good luck.

There is the problem that it doesn't seem to run when the engine
compartment temp is high, would this affect the pressure?

Not really. If the fan is working, the condensor (which is right at the
front of the car) will only see outside air temp.
