The particulate filter warning light has just come on on my 2.2hdi 406,
accompanied by a nice message telling me "Diesel antipollution system
    defective".

Does anyone know exactly what this means ? e.g. the catalyst tank is
empty, there is a significant pressure difference either side of the DPF
    or... ?

I have about 500 miles to drive before I can reasonably get it to a dealer
    - is this going to damage anything ?

    Thanks!

I've taken it into a dealer - apparently I've run out of catalyst fluid (or
    it's below minimum level).

I would have thought it was just a matter of topping this up but they are
telling me that it requires a lot of re-setting up on the diagnostics
machine - does anyone know why this would be ? I'd prefer not to pay 400
    quid!

    Thanks,

    Steve

It just needs topping up and the counters reset. You can top it up and anyone with a snap on diagnostic or similar machine can reset it.
