Sort of. I just picked up a 98K 406GTX extate, 2L petrol. Got it for just
over 4K V reg. Seems okay. That kind of mileage creates minor dings &
scratches, but not too bothered 'cos the kids will wreck it in no time !
Our was an ex HSBC lease, so had all docs right down to when lightbulbs were
    changed. Useful info.

    Thats it.

Take a lok at the Daily Telegraph Motoring section.
www.honestjohn.co.uk is a very full report of all snags and recalls.
    Happy Motoring.

I've had 3 406's and currently have 406 Exec Estate with 2.0 Petrol HPi
engine. I ran the first 406 Exec 2.0 Petrol Turbo to 120K miles. I've had
    405 diesels in the past.

Crucial thing on 'your' car is if you're not certain cambelt has been
changed then budget for it to be done immediately (there's another thread
here discussing cost of this). I have recurring issues with warping front
brake discs (violent shaking of steering when braking from speed and if you
let the car roll v.slowly while gently braking you can feel the pad
touching/not touch the discs as the car rolls). I've also had probs with
uneven rear tyre wear (tyres wearing heavily on the inside edges) - the rear
tracking is adjustable but it's apparently quite fiddly to get right (I had
the car 4 wheel laser tracked eventually). Some of the alloy wheels don't
have a centre hole so can be awkward to get balanced (tyre places need an
adaptor which they frequently don't have). Front fog lights are expensive
    (I've had a few break).
Other than that, mine have been pretty good. An estate might have had a
hard life and the Exec leather is probably expensive to get fixed. On cars
I've taken over from other users, the leather door trims on the rear doors
have been damaged by having long objects pushed into them as they were being
loaded. The one I've got now has picked up a lot of small dents along both
sides, and, mysteriously, several on the bonnet and roof too.
If you get one with Sat Nav make sure you get the CD (although it will be
quite out of date) and the remote control.
