406 key code

Discussion in 'Peugeot 406' started by barrieknighton, Oct 30, 2004.

  1. Can anyone help please. I've changed the battery in the key of my 2002
registered 406 estate 2.0 HDI, and the central locking will still not
operate. I've followed the advice in some of the previous posts on the
same subject without any luck. Does anyone know the correct procedure for
    re-coding please?

Put key in ignition, turn to position 2, but do not start the engine, press
the button and hold it in for at least 10 seconds, turn ignition off. It
    should work now.

  3. Thanks for your post, I've done this before, but I thought I would just
check that I was correct. It will still not work even after checking all
fuses, presumably I'm now in the hands of the Peugeot main dealers again.
    Thanks anyway

What you could try is to disconnect the battery for 1 minute. Before
you do this you MUST allow the BSI to go to sleep, so unlock the car,
open the bonnet, do not put the key in the ignition, close the
door, wait three minutes, disconnect the positive lead for 1 minute,
reconnect. Open the door, close the door and try the plip. Bit of a
palaver, but it should work. You may find the drivers window will need
resynchronising. Open fully, then close. If it goes up in stages, get
it all the way up to the top, and then hold the switch up for a few
seconds. That should now work properly.
    Good luck!!

Just a thought. Won't he need the code for the radio? I assume it
will need re-coding after disconnecting the battery.

No he won't need to recode the radio There is no code. It's configured
to the BSI and won't work with any other car without reconfiguring
    with Diag tool.
