    Hi All,

I've got an S-plate 98 406 LX that was bought with no owners handbook and
only one set of keys. All legal of course, car was bought from a small
    independant non-Pug dealer.

I'm looking to get a spare set of keys cut, to avoid the hideous expense of
rekeying the car if I lose them. I tried the local Pug garage, and the parts
guy was far from helpful. The best he could suggest was if they were to
perform a Pug database look-up of the car, to get the fob numbers for the
keys. Even if Pug didn't have the details, I'd still get charged. He didn't
seem to want to help, so I'm against giving them any money unless as a last
    resort.

Is there a better way than this? Would any of the mobile car locksmith
tradesmen be any use to me? Or, is the cost and hasstle not worth it, given
that I've never lost a key in my life? I'm just thinking what it would cost
to replace all of the barrels should I lose this set, as well as the loss of
    transport during it.

    Thanks in advance!!

    Fraser.
