406 windshield

Discussion in 'Peugeot 406' started by Piotr \(popaj\), Jul 10, 2003.

  1. Good day, is somebody using a radar detector in P406? Is this true that its
windshield is metallic and blocks the radar signals?

    muttered into alt.autos.peugeot:
    metallic glass?

    metallic glass?
Has those fine wires through it.. not really metallic glass, but probably
interferes with some units I'd imagine.
I have heard of 406's not letting radar detectors work, although a mate of
mine had a Snooper something or other that wouldn't shut up in his 406.

its true it could give less range of reception with the 406 because of
the sun reflecting glass, its the same with installing the GPS antenna
undere your front window, reception is very poor. (peugeot installs it
at the reardeck in a berline and at the antennefoot of a break).

btw a lil advise. try to mount your detector in a vertical way; the
polarity of the microwaves from a radar speedgun or automatic camera is
vertical. so you could get better reception then.

The later 406's all have this hi-tech glass. Mine is a 2002 V6 and I
could not get either of two GPS camera detectors to work. As soon as I
positioned a detector directly under the open sunroof it worked. QED, I
think. But one can't very well drive everywhere with the sunroof fully
open holding detector in one hand whilst steering/changing gear/
lighting a fag with other, can one? <G>

AFAIK the only solution is to build such a detector physically into the
car and that's an expensive proposition. It's cheaper and easier to rely
on your eyes and try to stick to speed limits.

    Best wishes,
