as my pedal was stiff and i was finding the gears a little stiff at times
i've replaced the cable and gearbox fluid.
pedal much lighter but i have two problems.
    1. biting point now really low down was halfway before
    2. gears still stiff to engage although the low biting point won't be
    helping

any ideas before i replace the clutch?

  2. Have you bled the servo?, depending on the model and you obviously have a
hydrauliuc clutch, you may need to bleed the hydraulics, the clutch and
brakes are run by the same servo.

  4. Ah! i thought it was a hydraulic one, sorry the 406 is a hydraulic, i just
thought your 306 might have one.
Do you have an adjuster on your clutch cable?
Of course thats not to say the actual clutch plate isnt on its way!
    just trying a few possibilities.
    reg's mark.

  6. Have you adjusted/reset the clutch pedal?
Go under the bonnet, and release the cable from the clutch arm, the pedal
    will spring up, check it!
now reconnect the cable to the arm, and go inside and press the pedal.
I remember i had to do this on my escort when i replaced the clutch, gotta
    be worth a try!!

hope it does it! regards, mark.

  7. If the pedal doesnt spring up, with the cable released from the arm, go
inside and press the pedal, release it, then go round under the bonnet, and
reconnect the cable to the arm, then press the pedal.

  9. Hi Simon, i have put a reply in the group, but i'll repeat it here.
try undoing the cable from the fork at the bell housing., the pedal may pop
up, if not, go into the car and, press the clutch and release it, then go
back under the bonnet and reconnect the cable, and press the pedal again.
the pedal has to be reset.
I remembered this from when i did the clutch on my escort.
give it a whirl, let me know how you get on.
    regs mark.

the pedal comes up okay it's the bititng point that's changed from halfway
    to almost at the bottom.

  11. Hmmm! i cant think of anything else mate, the similar thing happened to me
and the pedal reset worked for me, sorry i cant think of anything else.
It is properly routed isnt it?
sometimes if something is bypassed when fitting or not routed properly it'll
affect the bite point and such likes.
Like i say, i'm sorry i cant think of anything else.
I'd suggest you go to a dealer or a specialist and just ask if theres
anything else, you dont neccesarily have to book the car in, just ask a
passing mechanic, or carefully "stroll" into the workshops and ask.
    regards, Mark.
