Dipped main beam failure

    Hi everyone, I'm a newbie so be gentle with me.
    I drive a 406 2.0 hdi 110 estate.
    The other evening when I turned on my lights, they came on then immediately off.I have sidelights, main beam and rear lights.
    I have checked bulbs and fuses and they are good.
    Can anyone shed light on what the problem is.
    I have to drive on main beam with the aim lowered so not to dazzle.
