    I've got a 306 1.4 meridian and when i turn the key i hear a kinda
'whirring' noise for a few seconds, which i think is the fuel pump
kicking in, and then it goes. But now when i start the engine i get the
noise constantly and its quite load. Does anyone know whether it is the
fuel pump or something else? and is it normal to hear it all the time?

Check that the pump is in rubber, if not fit some round it and it will
    be very quite,
