Help wire wiring: installing USB ports

    Hi guys,
    New and and I need some help please.
    I recently mounted 2x pre fused, power only, USB ports (1 unit the soils into 2 ports) into my dash.
    I originally wired up to the12v socket in the centre console but I found out that that doesn't work with the lights on. The moment I turn the side lights on the ports loose power.
    I changed the wiring and used a fuse tap for the positive wire, and left the negative still attached to the 12v (as I'm not sure where else to put it). I thought it would be fine since the positive is not drawing power from the same circuit as the lights.
    But I'm still having the same issue.
    Any advice please?
    Should I connect the negative somewhere else? If so where?
