How to align headlamps

Had a bit of a front end knock which managed to break the bolt lugs on
my headlights, so I'm in the process of fitting a new pair. I've put one
on and it seems to be aiming too high. I know you need a proper beam
aligner to set up alignment correctly, but is there a rough way of
setting up alignement. i.e if you park a certain distance from a wall,
how far up should the centre of the beam pattern be?

    Any advice appreciated.

    Cheers

Main beam centre should be horizontal.

park another car the same distance from the wall
mark the beam pattern with chalk
move it out and yours in
    adjust to same pattern

  4. depends on how high your headlights are. parking in 5 meter from a
wall, the horizontal line should be 5 cm below the centre of your
headlights. When swithching to bright lights, the centre of the light
should be the same height as your headlights, i.e. the beam should be
    horizontal.
