Does anybody how what petrol is safe to use with a 16v Mi16 engine?
Unleaded, super U/L or LRP (while I can still get some!!)?

If it makes any difference it is a 1990 without (as far as I know) a cat...

    Thanks

  2. Unleaded will be OK, but AFAIK your Mi16 is a high-compression engine, and
you might notice some power loss with normal unleaded (in reality I think
this is only a few BHP)... Ideally, you should use super unleaded, or
anything that's 98 RON. (I admit I'm going from memory here... is that
    right?)
Normally, if you're running on LRP and you're going to switch to (normal)
unleaded, you'd have to retard the ignition by a couple of degrees. However,
the Mi16 has static ignition and I think it has a knock sensor. I should
learn that you have changed to a different octane petrol and should
automatically alter the ignition timing after a few miles and some hard
    acceleration.

    Hello,
Yes, it has a Motronic, it will manage it by itself, after some miles, as
    you say.

    Hello,
No, not only the 2L. The 1.9 also had a Motronic ECU, that was one of its
specific features, compared to the 8v version (405SRi, for example).
Later, all 2.0L XUs had a Motronic, as you said.
