Got the Peugeot 106 XND out of the garage (it's been SORNED for the last 6
months) and replaced the battery, checked the oil and the water. The water
was very low so replaced that with a 1:1 mix of coolant to water.

On starting up the car, the temperature warning light stays on and the
engine fan doesn't start. The heater will blow hot air. The actual
temperature of the water gets very hot very quickly (there doesn't seem to
be any leaks). Any ideas? Could an air lock be the cause of the problem?

sounds like a air bubble in your water system i bet you did not fill it
up slowly?on them u got a screw which u can undo and let the air out
try and find that and do that..

You're right-I didn't fill it up slowly. Where is this screw?
