peugeot 205 turbo diesel

    Could anyone tell me which other vehicles (Peugeot,Citroen,Renault etc)
    were fitted with the same injector pump as the 1769 diesel in my 205
    turbo. I presume the early 405 1800 engine is the same - any others?

    Hi,
    To tell the truth, early 405s were fit with an intercooler, which I assume,
    involves a different setup. If you wanna put a second hand 405 pump to your
    205TD I think you'd have to made it set up by a Diesel specialist (which,
    all in all would cost you less than a brand new complete pump).
    Oh, other vehicles fit with XUD7T engines... The only ones I can think of is
    early BX17 TD and 309TD. With intercooler, brings to 405s, late BX17TD I
    think. Perhaps a early 1.9TD pump would fit (with a little trimming) : see
    post-93 Pug 405s TD (GRDT, SRDT, Style TD...), BX TD, Xantia 1.9TD, 306TD,
    Xsara TD, and Suzuki Santana (without intercooler for the Santana).
    You may try at Rover's too (218TD IIRC had 1.7TD engines, with or without
    I/C ? No clue).

    That is not rubbish in the principle, but first of all, it seems you can
    just go away with a different pressure setting (the difference between Bosch
    and Lucas (formerly Roto-Diesel) being of about 10 bars), and last but not
    least, AFAIK all XUD turbo engines only have Roto (Lucas, now Delphi)
    injection systems.

    My 1.9TD 405 and 306TD certainly have the Bosch pump. I know that an earlier
    non turbo 205, and 405 had the Lucas one though.
    The difference in perssure would be enough to affect the running if nothing
    were done to correct it.

    It would worth a look !
    For non turbo 205s (and possibly 405s), both pumps are possible.
    Of course, but it doesn't seem to require a new set of injectors - that was
    my point.

    You can always add or remove shims under the springs in the injectors to
    adjust the opening pressure. However, this does require some means of
    measuring the pressure.
    If otherwise you used Bosch injectors on a Lucas pump, then the injection
    timing would be late, and the engine would get less fuel, which would reduce
    the top speed.
    In the opposite situation, the injection timing would be advanced and you
    would also have a tendancy for overfuelling.
    All of these can, of course, be adjusted, assuming you know what you are
    doing.

    Hi,
    Yup. Better thing to do is letting the injectors to a Diesel specialist and
    tell him 'set to 135b' for example, once you explained for what pump it is.
    Far cheaper than a set of injectors - and that was my point.
