peugeot 306 bad starting & cutting out

    Hi, I own a Peugeot 306 XND 1.9 deisel non turbo (1993) and for a few weeks
    now it has been playing up. I can go to shops and everything is fine but
    when i come to start the car again it refuses to start, if i leave it for a
    while sometimes up to 2 hours it will start. But the other day i was driving
    along and the engine just cut out, and again refused to start. Can anyone
    give me any ideas where to start to look to try find what is causing this
    problem as it is getting very annoying. Someone has suggested it could be
    the fuel pump electrics but i dont know how to check this so any ideas would
    be very much appreciated.
