I've got a 306 dturbo with a knocking noise coming from the n/s front wheel
area. Usually i just turn up the radio and drive faster, but the noise is
starting to get to me now.... Any ideas as to what it might be? It seems to
knock most on bumpy roads, round corners, etc, however, it does not affect
the handling, or at least not to a noticeable effect, and is not the drive
shaft knocking as i've checked them out. It has been suggested that it is
the front anti-roll bar drop link?

Any help would be appreciated as this knocking noise could potentially turn
into a substantial problem, with bank balance / life threatening
    consequences.

it could be a bottom ball joint, it could be a worn shock absorber, it may
be a bush somewhere, but either way you should have it checked rather than
turn the radio up louder, thats just crazy, if it is a ball joint then you
might not notice it afecting the handling etc until it pops out and puts you
    in a ditch upside down.

if its been suggested that the drop link is suspect why dont you check that
    first
rather than looking to overcomplicate the job

Im about 100% sure its your droplink from what you say is happening.
You are in no danger of anything falling off even though it sounds
bad. the droplink will be round 10er and you can fit it yourself in 5
mins. it bolts into the lug on your shock on one end and onto the
anti-roll bar on the other end. 306’s go through these all the time so
    get good at fitting them
