I presume it is a HDI? Have a check in the filter bowl for small brass
type metal filings. They did suffer from wear in the low pressure pump
in the tank which put these filings through the system. They get in
the high pressure pump and knacker it. Puts the K light on and
sometimes it will not rev over 3000 RPM (limp home mode).
The cure is complete replacement of the entire fuel system, including
the new pump you had, which has probably knackered up again!
We have got away with cleaning out the fuel tank, blowing out the fuel
lines and filter bowl. But the two pumps, fuel rail, filter and
    injectors must be renewed
The dealer should be able to confirm this by checking the fuel
pressure from the tank and return to the tank with gauges, and the
high pressure figures on the Diag.

Doesn't say much for the usefullness of the filter. Thins like brass
filings, however small, just shouldn't get through the filter.

they seem to let anything through
suspect an issue with filtration versus flow which doesnt enable the use of
    more efficient filters
