    Hi,

I have a strange problem with my 306 (1.4 built in '95), but not the
money to let it repair at a official peugeot-garage, because most of
them are not so reputable like they seems to be. I mean the fact I go to
them and tell them "hey something thats wrong with my car, but I don't
know what." - Can you suggest the euro-symbols in their eyes? ;)

Anyway, I try to describe it, maybe somebody had a similar problem in
the past or heared of it.

The idle running of my car is making troubles. Some days everything is
fine and on other days (like today (cold and foggy -> but I don't
remember if it was all the time the problems occured cold and wet)) the
idle running is very unsteady up to cut off. I have to give a little bit
gas while waiting at crossings or traffic lights, to prevent a cut off.
But thats not economic, comfortable and (in my opinion) very unsafe
(suggest an engine cut off when you _really_ need to drive away).

Any ideas what this can be? My (usual) garage already replaced the spark
coil, but it doesn't changed anything. I asked another garage and they
told me maybe it's a damaged spark plug, which need "some minutes" to
work properly. But what are "some minutes"? I drive every day 20km (one
way) to work (including 10 kilometers autobahn) and the problems is
after this distance still present but not as strong. Is this distance
far enough to push the spark plugs to working temperature?

My (usual, cheap and friendly) garage is stumped right now and doesn't
know whats the problem. The only thing left he could imagine is a defect
at the (injection-?)electronics (maybe a cold solder joint), but because
if the fact he won't told me the costs of a new one (;)) i fear it's
very expensive. Does somebody know the costs of an used or new one? Or
aren't this symptoms for such a damage?

    Thanks for any help :(

I had a problem with idling once, turned out to be the spark plug
leads...but my garage chap replaced the plugs at the same time also.

    Might wanna check that out...

if the idle is going up and down and you have changed the spark plugs abd
the coil then it is the stepper motor. You can clean it which often helps
but a new one is probably the best option £70 in UK.

It's very unsteady and it seems to stumble be between "normal" rpm and
below, suggesting the engine cut-off the next second :) my garage
replaced the spark plugs but it doesn't change something. I told them
about this "stepper motor" (I have to say I don't know what's the german
word for this, but I forwarded them the postings about this) and they
told me, my engine hasn't such an stepper motor. Is this possible?
