I've been thinking about getting a code reader for engine diagnostics for
    some time. I've got a 1998 406 2 litre 16V (pre facelift). Does this have a
diagnostic port? If so where is it and does it use OBD2?

    Cheers

I suspect not, mine is a pre-facelift 1998 and has an OBD-2 connector that
looks like it is wired for ISO-9141 but doesn't seem to respond to OBD-2.

YMMV, there may have been a firmware update for the (Bosch) ECU that
introduced it, but mine has never been anywhere near a main dealer since new
    :)

Thanks Chris. Mine's not been near a Pug dealer for some considerable time
either. Were abouts is this port as a matter of interest?

It is under the fuse box cover, low down on the right hand side of the
    fascia.

I did actually contact Peugeot not long after I had the car (from new) but
got the brushoff. Their 'Technical help line' did not seem to be in the
    business of offering technical help.
