pulley update

Well its done and the old one was ready to fall apart,took 45 mins from
start to finish,olny because i had a tool that removed the bolt from
bottom pulley with no problem.(cordless drill special )the only problem
i have at the moment is how do you get the right tension on the fan
belt?i did it in the end with engine running and just kept doing it up
untill it stopped makeing that noise, when belt is too lose,well lets
hope i have done it up to the right place,unless some kind sole has the
gauges that they use to do this thing with that can do mine for
me.(dont know unless you ask)

Ignore my post on the old thread. Glad you got it done.

Don't know how different the 1.9 Turbo 405 is to the 1.9 Turbo 406 but
Haynes has this for the 406 if it helps. The non aircon one looks easy.
The other looks a real doozy.

Without air conditioning:
The belt should be adjusted so that, under firm thumb pressure, there is
5.0mm of movement at the mid point on the longest run between the pulleys.

With air conditioning:
Turn the eccentric tensioner pulley to apply tension to the drive belt,
until the load is released from the setting bolt. Without altering the
position of the eccentric tensioner pulley, tighten its retaining bolt to
the specified torque.

Remove the setting bolt from the automatic tensioner arm, then rotate the
crankshaft four complete revolutions in the normal direction of rotation.

Check that the holes in the automatic adjuster arm and the mounting bracket
are still aligned by reinserting the setting bolt. If the bolt will not
slide in easily, repeat the process.

but it is all diff under my 405 than 406.been for a run
with it and the power steering is a lot better it take no muscle to
turn now not like before.i think the belt might be ok as i have spoken
to many people today and they said best way todo it is with engine
running, which i did.so lets hope its ok

 

Keep an eye on the belt and you'll soon know if it is wearing wrongly.

I have been out and about today and stopped many time and restared with
no noise, but i think it will need ajusting aftera couple of days. as
first thing it made a bit of a noise just as i was turning it over then
it was quite.
