Reverse gear problem

    I have a ’99 406 2l Petrol , manual trans.
    Often when reversing it will slip out of rev gear. More often if
    trying to back up hill. Sometimes , always after it has slipped out ,
    cannot select rev at all . If hold gear stick firmly it wont slip out.
    Hope someone can give some ideas - will be much appreciated.

    Eeer... Get back to neutral, clutch in then declutch & retry ?
