I have just reassembled my 306 after fitting a new head gasket and having the head skimmed but cannot get the Bosch injection pump to sucessfully prime. I have had 2 or 3 fires out of the engine but when I crack the unions off at the injectors only a very small amount of fuel comes out when turning the engine over and a lot of it seems to be air (flattened 2 batteries so far). The fuel filter is completely full and I have bled the pump on the inlet and return pipe unions. I cannot however find a bleed screw on the injection pump as mentioned (but not shown) in the Haynes book of lies, the bosch pump on my Land Rover Defender has one on the top middle of the pump and priming it has always been easy. Is the Haynes manual refering to the Lucas pump or is there a vital bleed screw somewhere on the Bosch I am missing? The fuel shut off solenoid has power and seems to click when ignition goes to position 2. Any other tips on how I might sort this out? Many thanks, Fergus
