    Hi All,
1996 turbo diesel estate XUD engine
I would like the turbo to boost at about 1800 rpm,
would it be possible to adjust the turbo to achieve this,
and how is the adjustment made
    TIA

If only it were that easy. To get earlier spooling you need to do one/all of
    these:

Larger diameter exhaust (less backpressure), freer intake, or rebuild the
turbo with a smaller or lighter compressor (£££££). Even so you wouldnt
shave more than a few hundred rpm off the current, and with a hybrid turbo
you either head towards more power but more lag or less power and less lag -
thats just the physics of it unless your turbo is very poorly designed to
    start with.

You may have a loose actuator allowing wastegate opening too early or a
sticky wastegate staying open. Stock turbos on TDs normally come in about 2K
dont they? Whats yours come in at?

you could tweak the fuel pump to increase power. depends on the type though
as to how easy it is. Lucas are more difficult than the bosch ones.
it'll increase torque and BHP but also emissions. less mpg too.

    Hi SimonDS
    Tell me more,,,,,,tell me more,,,,,,,
one of my problems is ,, when we go touring with a caravan, the boost is
almost none existent when climbing some hills, unless I drop down one or two
    gears then accelerate hard,
can I overcome this ,, or just put up with it,

Have a look at www.allardturbosport.co.uk . It covers your area of interest
    in detail.
Trust of help on the hills with the `van.

one of my problems is ,, when we go touring with a caravan, the boost is
Thats normal if you havent got the revs (and hence gas volume flow) to spin
    it up.
Tweaking the fuel pump dumps more fuel in - makes nice black clouds and
gives more performance as D's generally are run weak for emissions. No idea
on this car how to, mine runs two pump speeds AFM position dependant, but
    its a petrol.

    Thanks for the input People,
I have had this problem for some time now, so I think I will just have to
live with it, like I have said, I'm not looking for performance, just a bit
    of torque at lower rev's
some people have suggested changing the car,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
that is out of the question because this is a brilliant car, its never let
me down, works hard all week, economical, comfortable , and just looks good,

i had my d'turbo tweaked as it seemed to lack power. Had the main fuelling
turned up a bit and the on boost fuelling too. No black clouds at all, over
35mpg when ragged and the emissions are 0.3%
    Ring Gav at www.thedervdoctor.co.uk
He charged me £80 and i've never regretted it. Which pump do you have?

Getting it tuned should help some body has already mentioned the derv
doctor ive heard good things about them. Allard are goo to as are vann
aken?? In fact i intend to take my car to the doc's next yr for some
tlc on the engine if it passes the mot with flying colours.
Im sure my turbo kicks in 1800ish defo sub 2k mark. Try an "italian"
tune up and some injector cleaner to see if that helps.
DOnt forget all the usual stuff tho like air filter, fuel filter as
these hamper power. Also if you are mechanically minded you could
take the intercooler off the car and clean it inside and out. You'd be
surprised in the difference it makes. I was, nearly shat myself (i
wasnt expecting it i only cleaned it cos i spilt some oil and hot
    chocolate on it).
